StartUpRoots launched this pioneer project to introduce hydroponics to a population challenged by poverty and malnutrition on the eve of an approaching shmita year. Presented with the opportunity to engage students with lessons rooted in social justice (shmita), StartUpRoots developed curricula in science, sustainable entrepreneurship and nutrition. As a way of monitoring the project and the students' progress SUR realized that its photojournalism curriculum revealed benefits that exceeded all expectations. The implementing teacher believes this project should be in every school.
