Meet Our Blogger!

Writer: Lara SuksterLara Sukster

In this post, we'd like to introduce you to our new blogger, Lara Sukster!

Dear StartUpRoots community,

My name is Lara Sukster and I’m pleased to inform you that I’m StartUpRoots’ new blogger! Before I begin sharing interesting information with you about health, sustainability, education, soilless farming, and other ideas connected to the mission of StartUpRoots, I’d like to tell you about myself. Fair, isn’t it?

First of all, this person in the picture is me, but I guess you have guessed that already. Well, I’m 20 years old, and, for your surprise, yes, I’m Brazilian! I’m from the south of the country, more specifically from Rio Grande do Sul state, and I live in the capital, a city called Porto Alegre. I arrived in Israel on the 23rd of August, and my goal is to gain experience in my chosen field of study while I learn more about Judaism and Israel. I’ve just finished my second year at Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul, majoring in Journalism. I became acquainted with StartUpRoots through my friend, Sharon Berezin Alves, an agronomist who interned for StarUpRoots in 2018 and subsequently made aliya and supervised the StartUpRoots farm at the Diaspora Yeshiva.

As a future journalist, I’m interested in investigative journalism and reporting on issues that matter. We all need to understand how population growth, climate changes, farming practices, food waste, malnutrition, obesity, water shortages and more will impact our future. After learning about StartUpRoots’ focus on food justice, education, and health, I felt that I needed to be part of their mission to inform and transform as many people as possible. I invite you to join me on this incredible journey. Please feel free to offer your thoughts and ideas---I’ll research and write about your concerns as well as mine and together we can grow by growing. Sincerely yours, Lara Sukster, the blogger.
